Dust to Dust
2022 – ongoing
A meditation on impermanence through earthbound materials

Dust to dust is a series of paintings begun in 2022, rooted in the contemplation of impermanence and the cyclical nature of life and death. Inspired by the biblical phrase from Genesis—“For dust you are, and to dust you shall return”—the series explores the fragile, shifting threshold between being and dissolution.
Each painting is created with elemental materials that speak to the transient and tactile: ashes, sand, earth, clay, Chinese ink. These substances—ephemeral and grounding—are chosen not only for their symbolic resonance but for their physical qualities. Their texture, their weight, their disintegration over time all contribute to a visceral encounter with mortality.

Movement is central to the series. The compositions resist stillness, evoking the swirling, dissolving, reforming rhythm of life. Whether through gesture, layering, or erosion, the works express that nothing remains fixed—that all forms are in flux, and that within this flux lies both grief and grace.
Dust to dust is less a traditional body of work than a spiritual practice in material form—a visual meditation on return, surrender, and the beauty of the ephemeral.
