Hybrid Instinct is a series of art work with powerful concepts, both visually and thematically. The interplay between camouflage and violent adaptation creates a compelling tension—one where survival and self-expression are at odds. The chameleon-like body paint as a metaphor for the necessity of change and concealment is especially striking, particularly in how it contrasts with the visceral act of “vomiting” threads, which suggests an almost involuntary rejection of this adaptation.

The four-legged posture adds another layer of meaning, challenging the perceived separation between humans and animals while also commenting on consciousness. That shift between vertical and horizontal states as markers of awareness is profound—it suggests that adaptation might not just be about physical survival but also about negotiating different states of self-awareness.

Aesthetically there is a real alchemy between the classical Greek sculpture, where the body is set in a specific pose with movement, yet also draws from the Butho dance tradition of the physical engagement with the body and existential themes.
